Alexa received her Bachelors in Fine Arts and a Masters in Clinical Social Work, both from New York University. Her post-graduate training and study has focused around trauma and grief throughout transitions in the lives of women. She has been working with adolescents, adults, couples and families for over 20 years.
Helping women and couples mindfully manage the struggle of pregnancy loss, infertility and assisted reproduction has been a focus of Alexa's practice. She has been a recommended therapist and run groups for Resolve, the National Infertility Organization. She also works with women getting reacquainted with, and learning to accept (and listen to) their bodies after crisis, illness, divorce and loss; as well as with healing the disconnection from the body that often comes with disordered eating, compulsive exercise and/or substance abuse/addiction. She is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and currently completing her certification as a Clinical Eating Disorder Specialist. Alexa is an advocate for Health At Every(body) Size (HAES) and uses a collaborative approach to working with body image and disordered eating. She utilizes DBT and Brainspotting as well as mindful, contemplative and interoceptive practices to work with disordered eating, body image, anxiety, depression and trauma.
A consistent student of life, and understanding that death is a natural part of it, Alexa sees individuals receiving chronic or terminal diagnoses, and grief work and support for their families (around loss, or the impending or ambiguous loss of a significant person). She is trained as a certified Grief Counseling Specialist, completed Foundations at the Zen Center for Contemplative Care and has worked as a spiritual caregiver and death doula for hospice patients and their families. She received Certification as a Grief Educator from David Kessler. Alexa recently graduated from a year long program with IPI, Integrative Psychiatry Institute as a Certified Psychedelic- Assisted Psychotherapist. She has practiced different modalities of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy to ease depression and existential fear, as well as support connection, through grief, loss and end of life care.
Her work with grief, loss and trauma led Alexa to work with women getting out of abusive intimate relationships to manage the separation and/ or divorce process with clarity and awareness. This work with women is focused on helping them to explore their attachment history, find their voices, regroup, and begin to rebuild their lives. She is certified as a High Conflict Divorce Coach/ Consultant through One Mom's Battle.
As both a psychotherapist and yoga/ meditation teacher, Alexa has a holistic view of mental health that includes the entire person- physically, cognitively, emotionally and spiritually. She founded the now closed Yoga Sol, an accessible community Yoga Studio in Westchester, NY, and is a guest teacher running professional continuing education trainings with Little Flower Yoga. Her teaching focuses on the ways in which yoga affects the nervous system and how to foster emotional regulation, body awareness/ acceptance and resilience in both adolescents and adults. She currently teaches group classes in Westchester, NY as well as on destination retreats.
