Intuitive Eating was developed by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch in 1995. Eating intuitively involves body-acceptance and freeing ourselves from a "diet culture" mentality- which is incredibly challenging in our culture with its impossible beauty ideals that we are bombarded with in the media.
Dieting doesn’t work- 95% of intentional weight lost through dieting is gained back. Continually trying to change/monitor our bodies' weight leads to increasingly negative body image (body-related self-perceptions) and a lack of interoceptive awareness (messages from our body to our brain). How we feel about our bodies impacts how we take care of them. Certified as an Intuitive Eating counselor, Alexa works with clients recovering from chronic dieting, disordered eating and compulsive exercise, or just longing for freedom from oppressive "diet culture”- through a mind/ body approach, which includes the principles of Intuitive Eating. Alexa works with all body sizes. |
